Adirondack Guide Boat

One boat is never enough...

I have long wanted a rowing boat for exploring the lakes and rivers around Pittsburgh when the sailing is no good or I just feel like getting on the water for an hour or two. I wanted a beautiful, easy to row craft that is completely manageable by me alone, but can take another person or two occassionally. After a good deal of thought and research I settled on an Adirondack Guide Boat.

This Guideboat was built by John Michne who, along with Michael Olivette, wrote an excellent book (Buiding an Adirondack Guideboat, Nicholas K. Burns Publishing, 2005) on the construction of this boat. She is a strip planked replica of the Guideboat Virginia, which was built in 1905 and measured by boat preservationist John Gardner.

I can only hope my boat turns out as well. Here goes....
